Welcome Back!

Despite how quickly the summer went, I hope that everyone is ready to start a brand new school year. There will be more to come on how my summer went, but for now, I would just like to welcome everyone back to school and back to English class.  Just like any other school year, there will be changes and challenges, but with hard work and perseverance, we will make it through, and hopefully have a great time in the process!

I would also like to welcome the freshmen to my English class.  Even those who have already had me in reading, get ready for a whole new experience.  This class will be challenging, but if you work diligently, then you will do just fine!  Don't be afraid to approach me and ask me questions, whether it be about English class or life in general.  My door is always open (metaphorically speaking.  Sometimes I have to close it if it's loud in the hall, or if I'm having a meeting, or something like that.  You get the idea).

In the coming weeks, we are all going to be pushing through and doing many different types of reading and writing.  I encourage everyone to give everything their best shot and keep an open mind with everything we do.  Reading and writing can be tough, but it is also very rewarding if you just give it a shot.  Remember, if you approach something with a bad attitude, it will probably be just as bad as you think it's going to be.  However, if you go into something thinking that there is a possibility for you to enjoy it, then maybe you will!

Overall, I just want to wish everyone a great school year and encourage you to do your best in every endeavor that you undertake.  No matter what challenge you end up facing, there is someone at this school willing to help you, whether it be myself or any other staff member.  However, all the encouragement in the world may not change the fact that a lot of you feel like the kids in this video:

Good luck, and enjoy the new school year,

Mrs. Weiss

  3. Well I'm not really excited to start the school year I wish the summer was longer. But I guess I am ready for a new start in English class. I'm really hoping this school year goes by fast so then I will have some new challenges to face.

  4. I am excited to be back at school. I can't wait for us to start reading and writing, even though English isn't my favorite or best subject. I am really excited for the speech portion of this year because I am a speech freak. I love writing and I am ready for this year.

  5. I agree completely my summer went by to fast for me too, my summer was consumed by work and football. The football part was fun the work part not so much.

  6. I am not excited for to school to start at all, this summer went by way to fast. The only good thing about school starting is you get to see your friends everyday and sports are starting. Other than that i am not excited that school is starting.

  7. At the beginning of this blog I felt as if you were going to tell us about how your summer went and what you did throughout it, but that is not how your blog went at all! I am sad that summer is officially over, but I am excited and ready to face this new school year.

  8. Thank you for the warm welcome! It sounds like you had a pretty good summer! I had a pretty good summer also! See you in class! Bye now!

  9. This summer I went to Indianapolis and Tennessee for three and a half weeks. It was fun. I also got my license this summer. I heard English 10 was really hard so to be honest I am not too excited about it this year.

  10. This summer went by really fast and was completely consumed by baseball, football, basketball, and work. But the definite highlight of my summer was building a 1979 Buick demolition derby car. I competed in the Lincoln county Fair Derby and came in second behind my father.

  13. I really do like the changes that you have made this year. I like how we don't have quarterly responses this year. I am somewhat excited for this year because of what you told us on what we are doing.

  14. I am excited for the new school year to start, I mean you get a fresh start, you get the chance to change things for the better. Last year was not a good year for me, so I am hoping for a better year. I also had an amazing summer, went to Niagara Falls, Colorado a bunch of times, and hung out with Bre a lot, and I worked a lot. It was a really great summer for me this year.

  15. This summer went by way to fast. I love the changes that you have made and I totally agree about the whole attitude thing if you go into it with a bad attitude then you definitely wont like it so the encouraging you have done in your blog really does help. So thank you.

  16. I don't want to be here and I don't want to be doing blogs again.

  17. Thank you for all the encouragement. Although I am not that excited for the school year I am very excited that I am not a freshman anymore!! Freshman year was probably my bad year in my high school career.

  18. Whale I am so excited for this year but I don't think I am very prepared because I have been forgetting a bunch of things. I had a very good summer. I went to New Jersey and New York for a mission trip. I had a pretty good summer.

  19. Sounds awesome! I cant wait to see what you have in store for us this year. I am looking forward to learning new things in your class this year. I hope this year goes by fast, cant wait to graduate.

  20. Thank you so much for uplifting my spirits more on the idea of starting high school as a freshman. I was a little nervous about starting high school, but you make it sound a whole lot more fun than other classes. I'm sure I will enjoy your class, and I can't wait to start writing again for reports and other projects you assign.

  21. Thanks for all your encouragement on this school year. I am very exited, yet nervous, to be a freshman! Hopefully this year is going to be a lot of fun!! I wish the summer wouldn't of gone by so fast though..

  22. I am very excited for this year just because of how many opportunities I can have, but it is also scary because of all the changes to. This summer baseball was my life. 2/3 of my summer was baseball, playing here and there. Once ball was over my summer was pretty dull. I had a pretty good summer though.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well I'm ready to be a Freshman, but my summer had gone by way to fast. My summer was mostly about baseball until the middle of July. When it was over I had nothing to do, but hang with friends. Now there is nothing to do, but so go to school so I guess I better get use to it.

  24. I am excited becuse I passed junior high. I forgot how to type so I type really slow. I hope you will have fun this year

  25. I agree the summer did go quick! At the beginning of the summer it felt like I had all the time in the world, but towards the end it dawned on me that I did not have as much time as I thought I did. This made me sad as I was reminded of the harsh though of having to go back to school!

  26. This summer went by so fast, I really just wish it was still summer. I can't wait to hear about how everyone's summer went. Its crazy that we are Juniors this year. It seems like time flies by so fast.

  27. I would also like to welcome the freshmen to your English class. I would like to wish them good luck. I know what they're in for and hopefully they are religious because they need help from the lord.

  28. I am not excited for school to start, I am just excited for work to get over. I think that giving your best shot at everything is good advice. I feel kind of nervous because some of my classes are really hard. I decided I actually like English class because its allows you to express yourself and thoughts. The grammar part of English though, I could do without.

  29. Hey Mrs W! I am actually not looking forward to school but it sounds like you are! I am exited for our football season though. We are expected to do great things and we just try to win the day every chance we get. I hope you can come watch us at the home games.

  30. This summer went by really fast or at least that's what I think. I honestly could have used another month of summer, but that isn't going to happen. The reason it went by so fast was because of summer weights and sport camps. Anyways, even though I'm not feeling so into school yet I will try my best in your class and I will not be afraid to ask you questions if I need to.

  31. I am really excited to get back into the school year and try to improve my grades from last year. I thought the summer took a while to pass by though maybe it was because I was working all the time which sucked but at the same time I made a lot of money and my supervisors let me say whatever I want so it wasn't to bad.

  32. The freshmen should feel welcome in your English class, because your class is oh so fun and interesting. Especially reading Romeo and Juliet! That was dope, yo. I'm glad to be back in school, and I plan to work hard and get good grades and whatnot

  33. Summer went really really fast and I am not very excited for the reading and writing parts coming up though. That is the my least favorite thing to in school. When it comes time to do it I try to think positively and it goes downhill from there.

  34. This summer went by extremely fast! I think that everyone will have a great year and it will go by as fast as the summer did! I never knew that your door was always open, but now I do thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  35. School should be pushed back a few weeks. Honestly that would be really great. I am happy to welcome the freshman class and hope they are prepared for the things that are coming. Everyone has bad days sometimes and hopefully we will leave it at the door. But I am not making any promises.

  37. Summer was way to fast. I was actually pretty excited for school to start. I missed my friends and some of my teachers. I am trying to be more positive this year. Also since this class is in the afternoon we aren't all grumpy like we were last year. But I wish you all a great year!

  38. I agree that the summer went by way too fast. I wish we could have summer forever because I extremely dislike school. School is the worst. It is the same as getting a nine month sentence to prison with weekends off. I mean you get bossed around and told what to do and you have to do it or there will be consequences. To me it sounds like prison.

  39. Thank you for taking the time to encourage us to do our best in whatever we do and in each new endeavor. That was very kind of you. I am, however, very disappointed in the fact that you kindly took the time to type a whole paragraph welcoming the freshman back to school. Why do they get one and not us? Is it cause they are fresh? Anyways, I would have appreciated an entire paragraph dedicated to just our class. Thanks for the disappointment.

  40. Thank you for encouraging us! I feel like summer went by way to fast and should at least be pushed back until after my birthday, I'm excited to be a freshman though and excited for sports to start.

  41. As my first comment, I would like to thank Mrs. Weiss for welcoming us Freshmen. I'm not sure what I am feeling about the start of school. I am glad that we are back to learning about the wide world, but I am going to miss doing nothing all day because we have to go to school.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am not ready for summer to be over i wish we had school the days that we had summer and we had school the days of summer because the only reason that i go to school is because i half to or i would not go so all of you guys have a good year??!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Honestly I would like to start school later, but I'd rather get out earlier in the summer than to be the last school in the surrounding area to dismiss for the summer. I think high school will be an exciting and very fun experience, and I am glad to finally be starting out.

  48. To be honest, Im really nervous for this school year starting out as a freshmen. I'm not really ready because summer has gone by way too fast! Its very different transitioning from junior high to high school. But thanks for encouraging us!

  49. I agree, summer went by way too quickly, I feel like just last week we were cleaning out our lockers for summer vacation. Thank you for all the encouragement it makes me feel a lot better about freshmen year and English class.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks for the encouragement, i am really nervous because I am a new student, so its frightening. So far i see that you are a really cool and nice teacher. And I loved when you started talking about your doors being open, that was funny.

  51. Summer did go by fast. But at the beginning it was like Summer was never gonna end. But once it was my birthday it was going by to fast. I sometimes wonder where all the time goes. Sometimes I wonder how can school goes so slow.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And so far you have been my favorite teachers.

  53. Summer flashed before my eyes. I didn't get to do anything this summer but chores work and friends. The only thing I did this summer that was all right was canoeing with our church. I didn't think it was going to be very fun. It turns out if you only go out of the town for a couple of hours it feels like you are in another country.

  54. The summer went by so fast and I didn't want the summer to end, but I am excited for the school year to start.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I could not agree with you more about the summer going really fast, one second it was June, and the next thing I know its the first day of school. No offense, but I really wish the school year could go that fast! There were so many things I planned on doing this summer that I wish I still had time to do.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm not going to be a cliche and bore you with the details of my summer. I totally agree that we should have a positive attitude and an open mind. It just brings chill vibes.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am actually kind of happy that school started because I have bee so bored all summer because there really wasn't anything to do. I am not excited for all the homework though. I hope this year is really good.

  58. I am so ready for this year to be done and over with. I want it to be summer again so I can go camping and boating a lot more. I am so glad you had a good summer.

  59. No matter what other people say. It's the worst class ever. But it's not the best.At first I didn't really like this class to begin with but it eventually got a lot better.

  60. i feel like school went and came so quickly. i link that it happiness all the time and i feel like school would be a little easier this year. it also has a lot of new things but a lot of them i like, like extra credit from Quaternary reading responses...

  61. Well I am not very excited for school to start. I wanted summer to last forever. Well this weekend I am going to a dance maybe so that shall be fun. Except that some of my friends aren't going so I might not go. Anyways good blog!

  62. I am not excited for school to start. I am glad I will have something to do but I am not a fan of some of my classes. I hope the freshmen have a good time in your class and I hope they have as good of a time as we did last year.

  63. I'm excited for your English class this year because we are going to be doing speech! So that's exciting. I'm excited to write short stories too! I hope it's going to be a good year.

  64. So apparently I dont comment on this blog when I thought I did. So its a good thing I checked. tbh I'm not excited to be here. I hate school, but its a new year so maybe my feelings will change. I doubt it though. The only thing I'm excited for is SPEECH.

  65. I am not looking forward to this long school year. I am not looking forward to english class either. It is nothing against you Mrs. Weiss I just dont like english. I am ready for football games how ever they are the highlight of the whole school year.

  66. In my opinion school starts too early. We should have a few more weeks pushed back. Thanks for the encouragement, I am definitely excited to finally be in high school.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks for the welcome. I honestly feel like summer didn't really last long. I really don't want to come back to school but I'll get over it, I have lazy issues. I also hope my classes won't be to hard but I already know that it wont be super easy so either way I hope it'll be a good year so I can't complain about next year yet.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Even though i wish it was still summer and we didn't have school but I know if school starts then football starts. I hope that you had a good summer and hope that you have a good school year to.

  70. Summer went by way to fast. But I'm excited to be in high school. It is stressful having late practice and then coming home and having to study for tests and then drama rehearsal, then get up early and go to band rehearsal! But im starting to get used to the craziness. It will be worth it in the long run!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. This summer was a really good one! It really didn't end way too soon, but so many memories were made during it. School is an easy way to become more responsible and accountable and the best life lessons are taught through-out the school year.
